Shop@TheShip is a new convenience store that will replace Baileys Stores. We have rebranded and moved to a more spacious location at what used to be the Ship Inn, which we believe will allow us to serve the community much better. The bigger space will allow us to open a café as well as 3 large rooms that will be perfect for gatherings, meetings and social events. We aim to offer much more to the local community by offering extended hours, delicious products and a commitment to working with local farms and businesses. Serving the Community 7 Days a Week
Our shop in Newnham is conveniently placed to serve the local community and we are pleased to say that we are open 7 days a week from 7am to 7pm. We know how important it is to be able to visit the shop before and/or after work, and our opening hours reflect this.
Free Local Delivery
There are a number of residents in Newnham who have asked us to deliver items when they are unable to leave their home or if they struggle to carry their shopping. We are happy to offer a local delivery service for anyone who is unable to visit our shop for whatever reason. Best of all, is that this service is completely free.
Delicious Foods, Locally Sourced
We are committed to offering delicious products that are made by local farmers and businesses. So you will find that many of our ales, meats, wines and cheeses have been produced right here in Gloucestershire. By shopping with us you will not only be getting great food, but you will be supporting local traders. We buy in our bread from local bakeries, but bake a selection of pastries, baguettes and pies daily in the shop. We stock cut flowers plus seasonal plants and herbs, and behind our shop is a huge garden which is perfect for growing fresh vegetables, herbs and fruit. We intend to do just that, and will be able to offer fresh, organic produce every day in the future.
Businesses and Charities We Work With
The Gloucester Charcuterie supplies many of our salamis, pepperonis and deli sausages. You can purchase these at our deli counter in our shop in Newnham. They use natural ingredients to preserve their meats and smoked products rather than using chemicals and nitrates.
We procure some of our cheeses from Smart's. They are a family run farm that produce handmade cheese, the traditional way. Their cheese has won numerous awards and has a superior taste, quality and texture.
The Bentley family have been producing freshly pressed juices since 2002 and we are proud to stock their range of refreshing apple and pear juices. With nothing removed or added, Bentley’s Juices are 100% pure juice.
With a farm that stretches back all the way to 1936, Netherend specialise in producing creamy butter that is still made the traditional way. The quality of the butter is so good that you’ll find it the butter of choice for many Michelin star chefs.
We get many of our breads delivered fresh from Thura Bread who are a local bakery in Gloucestershire. Their baguettes, baps and breads are cooked fresh on the day for an authentic taste and texture.
Winstone’s produce luxury, artisan ice cream from time honoured recipes that stretch back to 1925. Situated in the Cotswolds, their ice cream comes in 17 wonderful flavours.
Wye are local to the area and supply us with delicious meats that are produced the traditional way.
Hillside are a small, local company that was founded in 2014. They produce a range of refreshing and great tasting beers from their brewery and are committed to a green, sustainable method of production.
Located on the banks of the River Severn, is Severn Cider. They grow all of their fruits from their orchards which they then use to create an award winning cider from their very own cider mills.
Tubby Tom produces a range of original hot sauces, seasonings and pickles that will complement any meal and dish.
We stock a selection of handmade vegan cakes and bakes that are created by award winning Lottie from her bakery in the Forest of Dean.
My Pet Treats produce home baked dog treats free from any preservatives. Suitable for every dog, your dog will be sure to love their delicious biscuits.
Camphill Village Trust supply organic seasonal veg, salads, fruit, herbs and free range eggs. They are a charity care company based at Oaklands Park where residents help with production.
From their premises at one of the forest's best viewpoints, RG Tosh & Son are a local cider producer and makers of Toshers Tipple.
McCrindles are another local cider maker producing high quality, small batch ciders and perry from their orchards at Blakeney.
Bespoke Brewing Co produce award winning, real ales in Micheldean having revived the former site of Victorian brewers Wintles.
